The United Styles Association was founded in 1983, a year after Sensei Paul opened his first club in 1982.  This came about after Paul and his long time friend Master John Horan (Deceased) decided to pool their knowledge and run courses for their students.

Paul's styles centred on Shotokan Karate whilst John's style centred around Shukokai Karate. As John said "bout time we stopped having our students beating each other up"!

Today the association has 28 clubs practicing a variety of martial art disciplines such as Karate, Self Defence, Aikido, Free Style and Weapons.

To name a few of the clubs within the association PC Karate Academy (Dudley, Stourbridge, Wolverhampton, Lye, Brierley Hill and Pensnett) Horan Shukokai Centre (Blackpool), Fylde Karate Centre (Blackpool), Toro Korkoro Shotokan Karate Ryu (Manchester), Midland Karate Academy (Wordsley) Sandwell Academy (West Bromwich), Pro-Kickz Martial Arts (Birmingham), P.S Karate (Wolverhampton) and Darlaston Karate.
