Mayor of Blackpool, Councillor Norman E. Hardy, and the entire civic team attended the United Styles Association weekend training course, headed up by Sensei Paul Campbell 6th Dan, BA (Hons), that was held in Blackpool on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th October 2009.

The Mayor and the civic team were treated to various demonstrations of self-defence techniques and spent some time observing the intense training sessions that had been arranged.

Councillor Hardy very graciously demonstrates his appreciation of the day by sending the following email;

'Just a quick note to say thank you for allowing the "civic" team attend your event today.   We were all very impressed with the whole setup and the behaviour of all ages. I will let you know when nominations are being sought for the Blackpool Community Sports Awards so that the young man who is fighting (is that the right word?)  for England later this year can be nominated. I should think he could be in for the Wilkinson Sword, but time will tell. Again thank you for a very interesting, sometimes frightening, event today and long may you and all the others continue to operate.

Councillor Norman E. Hardy

Mayor of Blackpool 2009/10'

Sensei's Thoughts
Important character building gained from Karate:

Self - Confidence Formula.

1. One must believe that and recite regularly that they have the ability to achieve the object of their definate purpose in life, therefore they must demand of themselves persisitent, continuous action towards its attainment. (Goal Setting)

2. One must realise the dominating thoughts of their mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward, physical action, and gradually transform themselves into physical reality.(If one believes they cannot achieve they will not, If they believe they can they will)

3. One should be aware that through the principle of auto-suggestion, any desire that they persistently hold in their mind will eventually seek expresson through some practicle means of attaining the object the back of it. (Negativity breeds Negativity)

4. One has clear aims in their minds of definate goals in life and should never stop trying, until they have developed sufficient self-confidence for its attainment.

In conclusion : We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.
~ Aristotle

Achievement
It's difficult to inspire others to accomplish what you yourself haven't been willing to try.
